8th Annual SESCA German Dinner

The Shoreview-Einhausen Sister City is pleased to present Dr. Ginny Steinhagen as keynote speaker for our 8th annual German dinner. Her presentation is entitled "Berlin 20 Years After the Fall of the Wall." The presentation will also include personal stories of the former German Democratic Republic citizens' views and historical incidents illustrating the complexity of reunification.

Dr. Steinhagen earned a PhD in German literature in 1996 and is now a senior lecturer at the Department of German, Scandinavian and Dutch at the University of Minnesota. She has been coordinator of the College in the Schools German Program since 2001. Dr. Steinhagen is a co-coordinator of the second-year German program, and a co-author of the University of Minnesota's second year curriculum "Sprunge." She is a past president of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German, and a past Netzwerk Trainer for the Goethe Institute in Chicago.

Dr. Steinhagen grew up in Waconia, Minnesota. Both of her parents descended from the German colonies of Waconia and Cologne in Minnesota and spoke what she describes as "Minnesota German". She enjoys teaching German language and culture and has taught at Humbolt University in Berlin. Dr. Steinhagen indicates one credential missing from her resume is the ability to ride a unicycle.

This dinner is open to the public and SESCA membership is not required to attend. Seating is available through advance registration only. Cost for this event is $30 per person for adults and $20 for high school students and those under the age of 18.
