Animal Control
If you wish to report a lost or found pet, animal complaints or wandering pets, call the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office non-emergency number at 651.484.3366. For other emergencies call 911.
All impounded animals will be impounded at the following location:

Owners of animals within the City of Shoreview must prevent the animal from becoming a nuisance by barking, baying, crying or howling in any manner for at least (5) five continuous minutes or intermittently for unreasonable lengths of time. To report a barking dog, contact Animal Control through the Ramsey County Sheriff (651.484.3366).
Dogs and cats are not allowed to roam freely throughout the City. All pets must be confined to inside your property lines. When walking dogs or cats in the City, they must be on a leash no more than six (6) feet in length and in the custody of a person who can adequately control the animal at all times.
Dogs, Cats and Potbellied Pigs
Dogs, cats, Vietnamese potbellied pigs, chickens and wild animals must be licensed through the City. A full ordinance is available in section 601 of the City Code.

Process
Bring in or mail a copy of your pet's rabies certificate to Shoreview City Hall, 4600 Victoria Street North, Shoreview MN 55126.
Valid
As long as the rabies shot is valid.
Regulations
Animals are not allowed to roam freely. Animals must be confined to inside your property line by fencing, leash or enclosure.
Pet owners must provide sufficient, wholesome food and water; proper shelter; veterinary care as needed; and humane care and treatment.
While exercising your pet, a leash no more than 6 feet in length must be used.
Excrement from animals must be cleaned up and disposed of properly.
No more than (3) dogs and (3) cats over the age of six months, or three (3) Vietnamese Potbellied pigs are permitted in one residence. The total number of combined licensed animals is limited to (4).
For pets that lose the license tag, duplicate tags are available at city hall.

Additional Regulations for Vietnamese Potbellied Pigs
Male pigs must be neutered when they reach the age of four (4) weeks.
Adult pigs cannot weigh more than 100 pounds or stand more than 22 inches at the shoulders.
Pigs must undergo a blood test to show that animal is free from rabies.
Pigs must be confined inside the owners property line.
Wild Animals
All wild animals, except the following, are prohibited within the City of Shoreview.
Wild animals brought into the City for entertainment, exhibition or show purposes by persons keeping wild animals for a public zoo as volunteers.
Wild animals which are part of a permanent display sponsored by a bona fide research institution, veterinary hospital, public zoo or other institution.
Non-poisonous snakes, birds kept indoors, hamsters, mice, rabbits, gerbils, white rats, guinea pigs, chinchillas, or lizards and similar small animals capable of being kept in cages continuously.
Monkeys trained as personal helpers and kept by handicapped persons.
Raptors owned by licensed Falconers holding valid state and federal Falconry permits.
Wild Animal License Process
A license application must be completed and a certificate of insurance must be provided in the amount of $200,000 liability coverage on the Wild Animal.
An Animal Control officer will review the application, conduct an investigation and prepare a written recommendation for the City Council.
City Council will then make the final decision on issuing a license.

Chicken Licenses
Chickens may be kept within the City limits on residential properties located in the RE, Residential Estate Zoning District and the R1, Detached Residential District, subject to the following conditions:
On residential properties less than 2 acres in size can have a maximum of (4) hen chickens or pullets. Roosters are prohibited.
On residential properties more than 2 acres, may need a conditional use permit for more than (4) hen chickens or pullets. Roosters may be permitted.
The butchering of chickens is prohibited
Chickens shall be fully contained on the property at all times through the use of fencing.
Shelters must comply with all requirements of the Development Code.
Food materials are stored outside shall be in closed containers with lids
All contaiment areas and shelters shall be maintained in a clean, sanitary, and odor free environment and shall be free from the presence of rodents or vermin at all times.
Chickens shall not be raised or kept for fighting. Cockfighting is prohibited.
License: No person shall keep, maintain or breed chickens on property located in Shoreview unless a license is obtained pursuant the provisions of the City Code, Chapter 600. Licenses are valid for 2 years, and the license fee is $19.
