Public Works

Introduction

The Public Works Department is comprised of two internal groups:

Winter Changes for hydrants

With snowplow season in full swing the City of Shoreview has begun to take additional steps to ensure resident safety and security. The City has found that Fire Hydrants that are located near high traffic roads can become coated in road salt much more than hydrants located on residential roads. This coating can make the hydrants stick and very difficult to open.

In an effort to keep all hydrants as efficient and ready as possible, the City has covered effected hydrants with heavy red plastic bags. These bags will protect against road salt and will still allow fire fighters to gain access to the hydrant quickly. The Lake Johanna Fire Department has been notified of the bags and are fully prepared to removed them in emergency situations. If you are clearing snow from around your hydrant, please be careful to not tear or remove the red bags.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Shoreview Utilities Department at 651.490.4661.

Surface Water Management

The City of Shoreview has completed this Second Generation Surface Water Management Plan (SWMP or Plan) to establish a more useful and up-to-date guide for future surface water management activities throughout the City. This second generation Plan builds on the City's 1990 SWMP and addresses several key issues related to storm water management that the City is likely to encounter in the coming years. This executive summary provides a brief description of the purpose and basis for this updated Plan, followed by a presentation of the nine overriding goals that were used to guide development of the Plan. This executive summary closes by highlighting the key issues the City intends to address as part of this Plan.
