Update: I-694 Construction
Ramp closure details
The ramps between eastbound I-694 and Victoria St. closed early Thu, Aug. 31 for reconstruction. During the closure, we’ll rebuild the ramps as part of work on the new third lane of eastbound I-694 between Lexington Ave. in Arden Hills and Rice Street in Little Canada. The ramps will reopen late in September as we shift traffic onto the new eastbound lanes of the interstate. However, there will still be lane restrictions through early November as we finish work on the project.
A second closure originally planned right after Labor Day has been delayed a couple days. The ramp from eastbound Hwy 10 to eastbound I-694 will close on Thu, Sept. 7to build a new lane along the north side of the roadway. The new lane will ease congestion by providing two lanes from eastbound Hwy 10 to eastbound I-694. We expect the work to take about three weeks and the new ramp will reopen by the end of September.
During this closure, all eastbound Hwy 10 traffic will be detoured south on Snelling Ave. to Hwy 36. If you are on southbound I-35W and want to reach eastbound I-694 you should stay on I-35W.
More about this project
Weather permitting, we will have traffic onto the permanent alignment of eastbound I-694 by the end of September, although traffic will still be restricted to two lanes. At the same time, the ramp from Rice St. to westbound I-694 will reopen. All work is expected to be completed by early November.
