Update on the Community Center Expansion
As you have visited the Community Center the last couple months, you can see that construction is well underway for our expansion project. RJM Construction, who serves as the general contractor, reports that they continue to make good progress on the Community Center expansion project despite the recent cold weather. Most of the work the past few weeks has focused on completing the footings and foundation walls for the expansion area adjacent to the gymnasium on the back side of the Community Center. The structural steel will start to be installed this week and the building will start to take shape in the next few weeks as the precast walls are installed.
The addition to the Tropics Indoor Water Park is about a month behind schedule due to high groundwater levels and the need to stabilize the soil around the existing pool foundation. Final engineering work has now been completed to address these issues and the contractor is expected to complete the footings and foundation work for the pool expansion in the next few weeks. This work will be followed by the installation of the structural steel and precast walls.
The City still anticipates that the Tropics Indoor Water Park and pool locker rooms will be closed beginning in early April to complete locker room renovations and add additional family changing rooms. The Tropics Indoor Water Park and remodeled locker rooms are expected to reopen in late May or early June for our busy summer season.
The City appreciates your continued patience during this expansion project.
