City of Shoreview's statement on George Floyd

Post Date:05/30/2020 1:20 PM

Like other Minnesota communities, Shoreview continues to grieve the tragic and unnecessary death of George Floyd. We know people continue to express their pain and anger and demand justice through peaceful protests. We support these efforts and are committed to working with the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office to ensure that everyone is treated in a fair and equitable manner. This includes any possible public safety and criminal justice reforms to prevent these sorts of tragedies in the future.

We stand in solidarity with all communities of color, especially the Black community during this difficult time. The city remains fully committed to developing an inclusive community that is welcoming and safe for all people. We ask everyone to take this time to listen to one another and consider how we can ensure horrible incidents like this never happen again. The truth is bias and systemic racism exists. We all have a responsibility to look inward and educate ourselves, and hold ourselves accountable for our actions.
