Community

Shoreview is home to over 26,000 residents and 13,000 workers. Our residents and businesses take great pride in the community and are actively involved in many civic organizations and events that enhance our quality of life.

Online

The city uses Polco to give residents a platform to make their voice heard on current ideas, projects, and issues facing the community.

In-person

City council meetings or public hearings

Attend a council meeting to speak under citizen comments or another agenda item. Agenda packets are posted online the Friday before a meeting. 

Public hearings are held on a variety of topics such as planning requests, street projects, certain ordinance amendments, etc. Depending on the public hearing, residents who live in the area may receive a mailed notice with the hearing information. All public hearings are published in the Shoreview Press.

Committees and commissions

The city has nine committees or commissions that advise the city council.

Community discussions

The city will sometimes host community discussions on a wide variety of topics. They are advertised on the calendar, social media, and ShoreViews.

Community organizations

Join one of the many organizations listed below that help enhance our high quality of life.

Leadership academy

The city created a leadership academy in 2016 to promote a deeper understanding of how local government works. The academy is held every two years for 20 residents. The next one will be in 2025.

Open houses

The city also hosts open houses for bigger projects such as the comprehensive plan update, street projects, or park projects. Depending on the project, information may be mailed out or posted on the city's website and social media channels.

Volunteer

The city has several volunteer opportunities where you can meet city staff and other community members.
