This committee works with the city council on environmental issues. It advocates for the environment, water quality, and waste disposal.

Come learn about the many lakes that give Shoreview its name! Hear from Rice Creek Watershed District and Ramsey Washington Metro Watershed District about Shoreview's lakes including their characteristics,  water quality, challenges, and successes.

Roseville Green to Go Ordinance

Join Roseville Sustainability Specialist to hear about Roseville’s “Green to Go” takeout container ordinance where food establishments are required to use containers that are reusable, compostable, or recyclable. Learn about how Green to Go started from a City Council member’s idea to an adopted ordinance, as well as an overview of implementation successes and challenges.

PFAS in Minnesota

PFAS are a family of nearly 5,000 chemicals that do not break down and are pervasive in the environment. In 2021, several Minnesota state agencies came together to publish the PFAS Blueprint, which identified potential paths forward to prevent, mitigate, and clean up PFAS pollution across Minnesota. This presentation covers the progress made in the time since publication.

Ramsey County Food Scraps Pickup Program

Join us to learn more about how to put your food scraps to work with the Food Scraps Pickup Program. The program is a new way for residents of Ramsey and Washington counties to recycle food scraps from home! During this presentation you will learn about how the program works, what items can be recycled, program availability, and how participating helps reduce waste and support a more sustainable community. Residents will also have a chance to ask questions and pick up helpful resources.

Green Community awards

Apply now for a Green Community Award! Residents and businesses are recognized each year for taking on environmentally friendly projects on their properties. Award applicants will be contacted in August. Winners are recognized by the mayor at a city council meeting. To nominate yourself or a neighbor, please refer to the application form below.

The Green Community Awards began in 2007. It is a way for Shoreview citizens, businesses, and other organizations to be recognized for their work in the environment. The committee has three award categories: water, energy, and general.

Environmental speaker series

Join the Environmental Quality Committee for the 2026 Environmental Speaker Series! The Committee hosts an annual series with speakers on environmental topics of interest to residents. Join for one or more sessions to learn about topics listed above. 

Speakers will be held in the council chambers at city hall.
