City accepting applications for advisory boards

The city has over 70 volunteers serving on nine committees or commissions. Each group advises the city council on a variety of issues.

The city is now taking applications for the following groups through November 14. Terms for regular members will expire January 31, 2029

  • Environmental quality committee
    • Advises on environmental issues like trash and recycling, water quality, and sustainability measures.
    • Meets on the fourth Monday of each month, 6:30 pm
    • One regular member
    • One student member, term expires upon high school graduation
  • Human rights commission
    • Advises on ways to create a community where all are welcomed, valued, and respected.
    • Meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month, 7 pm
    • One regular member
  • Planning commission


    • Assists with long-range planning by reviewing and making recommendations on development applications, the city’s comp plan, and the development code.
    • Meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month, 7 pm
    • One regular member



  • Public safety committee
    • Advises on public safety policies for police, fire, animal control, etc.
    • Meets on the third Thursdays of odd months, 7 pm
    • One regular member
