During its February 17 meeting, the Shoreview City Council joined the Cities for Safe and Stable Communities coalition. This is a nonpartisan coalition of Minnesota cities focused on safety, stability, and respect for constitutional protections.

The coalition was formed last month in response to the regional impacts of Operation Metro Surge, which local leaders say is straining city resources, disrupting local economies, and eroding trust between residents and government across Minnesota.

"The impacts to our residents, schools, local businesses, and economy will be felt long after Operation Metro Surge ends," noted Mayor Denkinger. "Joining this coalition is a vital step forward and ensures we can support our communities during recovery."

Coalition members emphasize that effective governance depends on trust. When residents are afraid to engage with local government or access services, that trust diminishes.

Through the coalition, member cities are calling on federal and state leaders to pursue immediate de-escalation and acknowledge the economic and social harm experienced by cities. Coalition members will also work together to assess long-term impacts and identify pathways to restore community stability and confidence in public institutions.

The coalition includes the following cities as of February 19:

  1. Bloomington
  2. Brooklyn Center
  3. Brooklyn Park
  4. Columbia Heights
  5. Crystal
  6. Eden Prairie
  7. Edina
  8. Falcon Heights
  9. Golden Valley
  10. Hopkins
  11. Lauderdale
  12. Maplewood
  13. Minnetonka
  14. New Brighton
  15. New Hope
  16. Plymouth
  17. Richfield
  18. Robbinsdale
  19. Saint Anthony Village
  20. St. Louis Park
  21. Vadnais Heights
