Animal licenses

Residents must get a license for the following animals:

  • Vietnamese potbellied pigs
  • Chickens
  • Bees

At their April 5 meeting, the city council approved an ordinance removing the requirement for residents to license their dogs and cats. This ordinance is now in effect.

Even though licenses are no longer required, pet owners still need to follow these rules:

  • Vaccinations
    • Dogs and cats need to have a rabies vaccination once they are six months or older
    • You will need to provide proof within 48 hours if the city asks
  • Number of animals
    • You cannot have more than four animals on your property
      • This includes a maximum of three dogs, three cats, three pigs, or four chickens
  • Roaming
    • Animals cannot roam freely within the city, please confine them to your property by a fence, leash, or enclosure
    • If out on a walk, use a leash six feet or shorter
  • Animal provisions
    • Provide the following for your animals:
      • Sufficient, wholesome food and water
      • Proper shelter
      • Veterinary care as needed
      • Humane care and treatment
  • Cleaning up
    • Please clean up after your animal

Overnight parking

Overnight parking is not allowed from 2 – 5 am on all Shoreview city streets. If you need to park overnight due to construction or overnight guests, you can request a permit.

Permits can be issued for up to seven days and five vehicles. Dumpsters, bagsters, pods, or unlicensed vehicles are not allowed on the street.

Please submit the permit application at least 24 hours in advance. Requests are reviewed Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4 pm.

Every homeowner or multi-dwelling owner must get a rental license before renting out their property.

Special event parking

If you live on a Shoreview city street that has “No Parking” signs, you can request a special event parking permit. This would be for events like graduation parties and garage sales.

Watering restriction exemption request

If you have new sod or seed in your yard, you can get an exemption from the odd-even restriction for two weeks. (Water use restrictions run May 15 - September 15). ***Please do not water between the hours of 11 am - 5 p.m.
