Running for Office

There are three seats up for election on the city council in 2020: (1) mayor and (2) councilmembers. The mayor serves a two-year term of office and receives $9,828 annually. The councilmembers serve overlapping four-year terms and receive $7,296 annually. 

The filing period is July 28 - August 11, 2020. Those interested in running for office must be:

  • An eligible voter,
  • A Shoreview resident for at least 30 days before the election
  • At least 21 years of age.

The cost to file is $5. You can file in person or by mail.

The city needs to receive your items by August 11. Staff will mail a confirmation letter and candidate filing packet after receiving your information.
