Environmental quality committee

This committee works with the city council on environmental issues. It advocates for the environment, water quality, and waste disposal.

Green Community awards

Apply now for a Green Community Award! Residents and businesses are recognized each year for taking on environmentally friendly projects on their properties. Award applicants will be contacted in August. Winners are recognized by the mayor at a city council meeting. To nominate yourself or a neighbor, please refer to the application form below.

The Green Community Awards began in 2007. It is a way for Shoreview citizens, businesses, and other organizations to be recognized for their work in the environment. The committee has three award categories: water, energy, and general.

Environmental speaker series

Join the Environmental Quality Committee for the 2025 Environmental Speaker Series! The Committee hosts an annual series with speakers on environmental topics of interest to residents. Join for one or more sessions to learn about the following topics. 

Speakers will be held in the council chambers at city hall. 

  • January 27, 7pm - A Conversation about Natural Burials, presented by the Land Conservation and Natural Burial group. Learn about natural burials, designations of natural burial cemeteries, and how your after death choices can reflect the values of your life. 
  • February 24, 7pm - New Environmental Service Center, Ramsey County will share updates on the construction of the new Environmental Service Center set to open April 2025 in Roseville. The center will provide recycling and waste disposal service to county residents. 
  • March 24, 7pm - Our Lakes and Winter Salt, Rice Creek Watershed District will present on the impacts winter deicing products, such as salt, have on water quality and the lakes we love.
  • April 28, 7pm - Energy Opportunities for Your Home, Learn about available rebates and programs for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects for your home from the Partners in Energy program and Xcel Energy.
