Committees & commissions

The city has over 70 volunteers serving on nine committees or commissions. Each group advises the city council on a variety of issues.

The city is currently taking applications for the following seats on the human rights commission. Applications will be accepted until positions are filled.

One regular member, term expires January 31, 2028
Three student members
- Begins in June 2026
- Term runs through high school graduation
- Students must:
  - Be a high school sophomore, junior, or senior
  - Live in Shoreview or attend Irondale, Mounds View, or Roseville high schools

Bikeways & trails committee

Advises the city council on the development of bikeways, trail ways and other means of transportation, and to promote their implementation.

Economic development authority

Supports existing businesses, encourages reinvestment in neighborhoods and commercial areas, and creates new opportunities to enhance the community's quality of life.

Economic development commission

Supports business development and growth in the city.

Environmental quality committee

Advises the city council on environmental issues such as trash and recycling, water quality, and other environmental initiatives.

Human rights commission

Advises the city council by establishing and promoting a community standard of equal opportunity and freedom from discrimination.

Parks & recreation commission

Advises the city council on park and recreation items.

Planning commission

Assists with long-range planning in the city. It also helps to foster high-quality development.

Public safety committee

Advises the city council in public safety policy matters.

Snail Lake improvement district board

Provides guidance on the management of Snail Lake such as the care of public beaches, docks and other facilities and lake water conservation programs.
